Wow.

This is really great. The structure is excellent, and really realistic. The texture on the arch is amazing too. The light on the body looks great.

I've been looking for something bad to say about it, and the only things I can come up with are that the wings are maybe a bit small and the head isn't very detailed. Only tiny little things though.

Great work.

Ahhh thanks a ton! Yeah, the head was definitely my weak spot. My imagination fails after a few hours of staring at black-and-white concept art of mythical creatures. :)

Once again, thanks a ton for the review.

Bad image quality

The concept is quite good, I certainly see where you're coming from, but it still isn't an amazing piece of art.

The grass looks like the same bit repeated a few times, which doesn't look realistic. At least take the time to draw it fully.

There's too much negative space, really..I'm not sure what you could use to fill it, but I think it should be filled.

The quality of the image is pretty bad, and even worse when viewed full-size. the NG Art Portal can accept PNGs, so use them, as they are much higher quality.

Thanks for this review.

Interesting.

The planet/core looks pretty good, it's cool how you've made it look really 3D using so little.

Try experimenting with depth of field a bit..At the moment, there's only 2 or 3 different size shapes in the background. Try putting a variety of sizes.

The thing in the top right just distracts the eye from the focus, and doesn't really bring anything new to the piece. It's just unnecessary.

I don't really like the colours blue and red together..maybe red and yellow or something..

TiberiumCrystalKutu responds:

Hmmm. I see... Anyway... Thanks for this nice review.

Nice effect, but the structure is off..

The colours are alright. It has that sorta thermal camera look to it, which is fine, but it needs a bit more structure if you're gonna use that effect.

I think that the bits of red are too small and spread apart too much..You would have been better off with 3 or 4 large patches. There isn't enough blue to make it worthwhile either..

Maybe you should try doing something figurative in that style

TiberiumCrystalKutu responds:

Well, you are right mostly. Thanks for that.

A bit muc..

As with most of your work, it looks much nicer in full size, but it still doesn't look quite as nice as your other pieces, in my opinion. It looks like you got a picture of an eye and just put loads of filters on it. I'm sure you didn't do that, but it just creates that illusion.

The colours are a bit much too..Maybe just stick with 2 or 3 colours, rather than the full spectrum.

I really like the contour line effect though, it's very effective and interesting.

HeavyTank responds:

I respect your opinion..

Epic.

I absolutely love pretty much everything about this. The detail is fantastic, and the colours are really nice. It certainly feels like some form of bacteria..I can imagine it'd be wonderful if you it was animated, but that'd be really hard. It'd be amazing if it was blown up to like 10 foot long and hung on a wall too.

The M shape kinda makes it look like some logo for an evil Bond villain or something.

I'm not gonna give you a full 10/10 because the shape isn't quite symmetrical., which would have been nice.

HeavyTank responds:

Ah, l should've removed the M shape..

Nice textures.

As an abstract piece, I don't feel it needs interpretation. It does not represent anything in life, but merely emotions or thoughts.

The thing that strikes me most about this are the textures, both in small size, and full size. This just adds an interesting dimension to it.

The colours used are decent enough, but a little generic and bland.

My only other complaint is that the a lot of it looks like it was done using the spraypaint tool in MSPaint.

HeavyTank responds:

Heh, thanks for your review...and no, l didn't use MS paint.

Good attention to detail

I love the attention to detail on the face, it really brings it up a notch. The best example of this is the web in the eye, it's great. However, with this much attention to detail on the face, couldn't you carry it over to the background. It seemed a bit lazy and too filtered. It still created a nice effect, but it didn't really work with the image.

Some of the scars seem a bit too parallel, which doesn't really work. Also, he hasn't got any eyebrows. I understand that he has kinda decomposed, but there would probably have been some remnant of an eyebrow..

Image quality is bad.

I quite like the background, with its psychedelic thermal camera effect. However, I'm not too keen on the scaly bit in the bottom right, it just draws you away from the subject (the birds).

The quality of the image is quite poor, too. The Art Portal will accept PNG images, which is much better quality, so maybe do that in future.

The plants on the edge don't really make sense, but I think the picture would look bare without them. Good job putting them there.

The birds themselves are good too. I like the fact you've used silhouette, as anything else wouldn't have worked at all.

TheThinWhale responds:

Thanks, that was well thought out. that scaly bit in the corner looked good before I changed it's color :I

No major complaints this time :D

Unlike most of my reviews for your art, I actually like the colours here, they work well together. Maybe the dragon could have a been a bit lighter, just to make it more central to the picture. However, if you were the doing it with charcoal, you probably didn't have a wide range of colour.

I really like the texture you've created with the charcoal. It makes it feel much more realistic.

I'm finding it very hard to find an issue with the actual anatomy of the dragon, but if I must say something, maybe move the far leg on the right of the picture a bit forward, and the one in front of it could be a bit thinner...

Over than a few tiny issues, it's excellent.

EchoRun responds:

Woot! An agreement on colour! *happy dance* ;)

The colour range for the tinted charcoal set was thus: Chalk for highlights, that earthy yellowish tone on some of the scales, and 22 additional shades of Dark (the purpleish shade here is one of the 'strong' colours). I knew when I was getting it that this was going to be a test in subtlety, but I think I underestimated it somewhat. lol

I would have liked to tweak those legs when I did it, but I honestly had no idea how to redo or go over my existing work at the time. I may have some ideas now, but I have yet to test them. So, aside from a couple of alterations to the original sketch, this was all done without corrections.

Thanks for the review. :)
